I must admit, I like to watch the Food Network whenever I have a free minute. Partially because I love to see what food creations they come up with, and also partially because I love to see the fabulous kitchen spaces they all have. My two personal favorites are Ree Drummond (Pioneer Woman) and Nancy Fuller’s (Farmhouse Rules) kitchens. Look at the pantry in Ree Drummond’s Lodge. SO pretty, right?!
After I’ve come down from my dream house cloud, I realize that I have to clean out my pantry and I need to work with what I have; that does not include an 80 square foot room. It includes this:
I have to say, I do feel lucky to have a pantry closet in my kitchen, I just wish it was a little prettier. I went to Pinterest for some ideas but after a while, I just ended back up in dreamland. So, taking matters into my own hands I did a DIY (realistic) fancy pantry fix. And get this…it only cost me $1!
The dollar spent was on these lovely labels from Target. Yep, only $1 and they are going to making my pantry look like a million bucks!
I started this project by cleaning everything out of the pantry, and I mean everything. I got rid of what was old, and started making a plan of how I can reorganize it all in a more efficient way before I started to put everything back in. Once I started putting items back, I realized there were a lot of items like grains, nuts, and snacks that could afford to be organized in containers like jars and boxes. So, I looked around my house to see what I had that I could repurpose, and I came up with:
- a clementine box
- two small plastic boxes
- one larger plastic container
- bread crumb container
- a clear (empty) granola container
- mason jars (lots of mason jars)
On a quest to make everything look fancy, I found some gold spray paint I had left over from another project that is actually a perfect match to the gold labels. Score! I took what I wanted to spray outside, and gave everything a good coat.
I also spray painted these old thumb tacks for my corkboard on the inside of the door. Matchy matchy!
Feeling like I had a little Midas gold power left, I continued and painted my corkboard gold. I was a little unsure how it would look, but I actually liked it once I started. Then, I touched everything else up with white after.
The first thing to be finished was the corkboard. Complete with hooks for my plastic bag holder (see my blog post on how to make one yourself!) and my reusable produce bags!
Then I finished piecing everything else together. I used lots of mason jars to add storage, but also the decor aspect of it as well. I think it came out pretty great! Take a peek.
As always, I did this in the name of reclaiming, reusing and upcycling. I think I have a pretty swanky pantry now. What do you think? Let us know!
