The idea behind starting Sustainable Sunday came from the wish to share sustainable items I use, DIY projects I make, and other tips that help achieve the goal of living a sustainable, ecofrindly lifestyle. I hope it will inspire and motivates others to do the same, as well as encourage conversation around the topic!

So without further introduction, here are my thoughts for the very first haus2home Sustainable Sunday:

Stainless steel straws
You might not think this is a huge deal, but hear me out. Every single time you go out to eat you get a drink your waiter or waitress will bring you a glass with a plastic straw in it. It may not seem like a huge deal depending on how often you go out to eat, but the reality is is that those straws never go away. Never. They end up getting crushed into smaller plastic pieces, or end up in waterways, or landfills, or what I think is the worst case scenario animals eat them and get injured. Regardless, they’re here forever. Using a stainless steel straw, eliminates that problem. Plus, it looks way cooler in your glass. 🙂
DIY Laundry Detergent
I’ve been making my own laundry detergent for about a year-and-a-half and I absolutely love it. Its made from more everyday ingredients and it works like charm. The batch I make (from the linked post) lasts so much longer for the money and even though some of the ingredients come in plastic bottles, I’m using a ton less than I would if I were purchasing bottles of liquid detergent or the capsules.

Reusable Produce Bags
These are one of my favorite reusable items to use. I take them to the grocery store every time I go shopping. I follow the same process I normally would with weighing and printing out the stickers, but instead of using a plastic bag (ick!) I use one of my reusable bags. The sticker sticks right on the bag.
