We’re always looking for ways to do our part to live green, and its always a bonus when that also means saving money!  This time we’re DIYing laundry detergent and we’ve been using this for a couple of months so that we could test it out before posting.  Turns out, we LOVE it and aren’t going back to store bought kind.

For this laundry detergent recipe, you will need:

  • Epsom salt $3
  • Washing soda $1.50
  • Oxiclean $10
  • Baking soda $1.50

Depending on where you shop, all of your supplies should total between $15-$20. Yes, it will cost a bit more than buying one singular tub of laundry detergent, but it should last you two to three times longer.

Once you have all your supplies, making this is a pinch! Just mix all the ingredients together as equal parts.  I use this silver canister as a way to store the recipe – its huge and its super cute; another win-win!

When you mix everything together, it will look like this.  The Oxiclean comes with a blue scoop, so we use that for scooping the detergent out into the washing machine.  Just use a scoop of it each time you do laundry.

And there you have it, DIY laundry detergent!

And remember to reclaim, reuse and upcycle!
