Nature Neutral Nursery Inspiration

I must admit, I’m a wee bit excited about designing a nursery! Okay, lie.  I’m REALLY excited about it.  Also, aside from our bathroom renovation  we haven’t completely overhauled a room since we moved in, so I’m really jazzed to tackle this nursery project for our little bundle of joy!

The room we’re using was an office and we’ve spent the beginning of my pregnancy clearing it out and selling off the items we won’t be needing anymore. (Side note: Marketplace on Facebook is such a great resource for buying and selling locally. We sold our desk and Pier One papasan chair through Facebook. It was so easy and we met some great people who were really happy to re-home our furnishings. It made my little reclaiming and reusing heart happy!)

Since we’re not finding out if we’re having a boy or girl, we decided to go with a nature neutral theme for the nursery. Here’s a looksie at what I’m thinking so far:

Chandelier

I was on a quest for a chandelier that didn’t scream girl or boy. This particular one is from Wayfair.com and I absolutely love how its made from wood beads. It also is both a little feminine and masculine at the same time which is great for keeping things neutral.  My goal is to muster up the courage to tackle it as a DIY project even though it looks extremely involved…this baby is worth it! 🙂

 

Dresser/Changing Table

I really wanted a mid-century Modern dresser like the one shown above from Houzz.com.  The fact that its long and has a nice flat top makes it perfect so I can double up on functionality within one piece for the baby’s clothing storage and diaper changing needs.  As much as I love the one from Houzz, I wanted to try and find an older, pre-loved piece that was from the era. The craigslist gods helped me out and granted me with this amazing piece to love for years to come. I’m going to be restoring it but that’s another blog post for another day! Spoiler alert: it was only $60! Holler!

 

Rocking Chair

I plan on spending a lot of time in a rocking chair feeding the baby and rocking him or her to sleep, so I knew I needed something that was just as comfortable as it was pretty. After looking at six (yes six!) different stores, Tom and I found the answer to our rocking chair needs. This is the exact chair we already purchased. It is the “Modern Wingback Recliner” from Pottery Barn Kids in the Washed Linen Cotton fabric in French Gray.  We happened to go to Pottery Barn Kids just as they were getting rid of a lot of floor models to make room for new models coming in and we were able to snag this baby for a seriously discounted price.  Yahoo!

Art

I decided I want a statement art piece for the room.  I’m not necessarily married to the particular Lion Cub photo shown above but its adorable and its from TJ Maxx so that’s always a sure bet to success.  If I don’t get this particular piece, I will probably stay in the animal family with the art choice.  Too cute!

Floor lamp

It might sound like overkill that I’m planning for a floor lamp and a chandelier so I hear you when you say, “Make that room dark and let that baby sleep!” However, the overhead light in that room is nonexistent so chandelier AND floor lamp it is! The one shown above I spotted from Pinterest.com but I have a similar one that’s an antique I’m hoping to be able to use. It just needs a little cleaning and some TLC.

Plants

Speaking of babies, our aloe and spider plants are making babies like crazy! We’re going to be including some plants in the room to keep with the nature neutral theme as well as help clean the air for our little baby’s lungs. Plants always add a nice touch to any room.

Crib

Although it isn’t pictured in my inspo, we will in fact have a crib.  I would love to have something that is pre-loved that goes with the vibe of rest of the room.
