I’ve built a couple of dog houses in my day, but I have to say this one very well may take the cake for the most famous, special, and philanthropic. Say what? Here’s why!

I originally built this dog house for my friends over at Valu Home Centers from nearly 100% reclaimed materials. They filmed a commercial spot with the dog house in our backyard and they even asked my dog Abbey to be a part of the fun too! You may recognize it from this spring’s TV spot, but in case you missed it, check it out! Also, how cute is that kid? Way too cute! 🙂

I’m an animal lover through and through so when I learned the dog house could help a no-kill animal shelter, I put two hands up in the air and said sign me up! My husband and Dad helped load the dog house onto the truck and we donated it to the Niagara County SPCA ; the very same place I adopted my childhood cat, Jagger, so it holds a special place in my heart! (If I may take a brief moment for memory lane…we walked in into the SPCA in 1997, and while all the other cats were sleeping, Jagger was hanging by his claws on the door to his cage and we all said, “We want THAT one!” Haha)

On June 2, the dog house will be auctioned off to help raise funds for the Niagara County SPCA  as part of their Hounds and Heroes event. The annual event is being held to honor veterans and first responders and will take place from 11a.m.-3p.m. on the grounds of the Niagara County SPCA; 2100 Lockport Road, Niagara Falls, NY 14304. All the event details are below and admission is free! So, save the date, and go out on June 2 to support a great cause!
