  1. I’m going to share this on my Home Solutions of WNY facebook page. Well said, Jackie. Also, for people who are curious, an organizer who is a certified Marie Kondo consultant offered this insight: And yes, there WERE KonMari consultants working behind the scenes with several of the shows’ families to help them stay on the production’s timeline. Reality TV is always going to be different than true reality.

  2. Hi there,

I’m curious as to what tub you have as mine looks similar. I’m having a problem figuring out how to tile over the tub skirt where the cement board meets up with the tub. It’s over a half inch and tapers a bit into the tub. The cement board is around 7/16”. I screwed it to the studs similar to yours, but if I want to cover the screw holes I will have to use about a 3/8” of thin set or more the whole way up so that the tile will be flat. Also how did you cover up the 45 degree angle on each side of the tub so that moisture doesn’t get in there? I’m unsure whether to tape it with mesh tape and use thin set to join the drywall to the cement board, or to use mud then thin set.

    1. Hi Dan! Thanks for stopping by. We put in a jacuzzi brand tub from Lowe’s (no jets.) We had to use a lot of thin set to make it even as well -especially with using heavy marble tile. We placed the tile hanging over the hardy board at the bottom of the hardy board/top of the top with just a very small space in between for them to set. we locked everything in to protect against the water with a a good caulking job. I hope this helps and answers all of your questions! Holler if you have more or need more info!

  3. Hello!

This is my first visit and journeyed from your lentil recipe to here. I know this is an older post, but it’s new to me. And resonates: we’ve always DIY-ed our landscaping as well: heavy, dirty, rewarding work!

You did a great job! Plants/bushes/trees make such a difference. And it’s so much fun to mark the passing of time through the things you plant (way better than via wrinkles). You won’t believe that Japanese maple in 10 years!

Greatly enjoying poking around your blog…your bathroom reno is amazing!

    1. Hi Em! Thanks so much for stopping by and for the nice comments! I agree 100% landscaping is tough and very rewarding!!! Since its been a few years already, its looking great. I should do an update post so everyone can see how its thriving. 🙂

Thank you about the bathroom as well! I hope you’ll give the blog a follow and continue reading. 🙂

  4. Love this!! Total DIY101 question – when you just oil the wood, is there upkeep you have to do? Like, do you have to re-oil it like a wooden cutting board? Thanks!

  5. Super cute! We aren’t lucky enough to have little bits this year, but I’m definitely pinning this for next year. You had me at easy, but easy AND cute is even better. Happy Easter!

  6. Forgive my serial comments… so impressed with what you have planned…while your bambino is enroute. Yay you! Just to clarify…is this fixer upper for you or for flipping? Either way, whoever gets to live here will be a lucky duckling, er swan.

  7. I have so much sympathy for our little ones and pray they can get to the new normal sooner than later. I do know children are resilient to a point and with the love and strength of their parents they will forge forward and only remember how their parents reacted to it. As for you parents- I don’t know how you do it. I admire your resilience and strength. I say everyday I don’t think I could endure what you all have in the last two years. I also , as a g’parent, have found it hard not being able to help with my g’children and doing the fun things we used to. Keep the faith and March ahead. I always say “this to shall pass” let’s pray sooner than later. C Rhoney

  8. Love this so much!! Also, I have used Jackie’s design services in the past. I highly recommend working with her!!! She understood my vision (even when I didn’t) and was so helpful in finding pieces that fit within by budget – and using what I already had on hand. Five stars!

  9. We just redid our kitchen and we were trying to pick a color for the walls but due to having dark cabinets (like your table seems to be) we decided to go with a shade of white on the walls. It’s so nice and bright. Plus we added recessed lighting. We did put in a dimmer on the dining table light so we can still have some ambience. We try to add pops of color with the items In the room. We can change those to go with the seasons and have a change without repainting. However, if your sideboard is white will that go with light colored walls – maybe if they aren’t as stark white as the sideboard ? You’re the expert though. Haha

  10. I NEVER leave advice or opinions, as I am tragically unqualified, but I greatly appreciate your plan and think your room will be much better without Lumiere.
I’m currently in week 6.5/8 in redoing our DR as well. I ditched the china cabinet for an EBTH score (and after having that cabinet for, ahem, 30 years that was no easy feat).
Love your light, your table, and your molding plan (and therefore, your ability to do math, which I don’t)… Whether light or dark walls, it will look lovely with your sideboard. And if you don’t love color #1…it’s just paint.

  11. We enjoy reading your blog! Your distinctive perspective and authentic voice are game-changers in the world. Keep sharing, because your ideas have a lasting impact. Thank you for being yourself!

    Thanks – TheDogGod

  12. May I inquire as to why you use batting? I found it wasn’t necessary. You also use the fleece side for your face? I found that the towel fabric I can get locally is abrasive.

  13. I was cleaning out mine that I got a few years back on Marketplace for $30. Love what holds but it’s got deceased grandma written all over it!!! I don’t have time for a strip down, sand, paint, resend and wait days to fill her.
YOUR A lifesaver and I love how easy you laid the process out. Love lining the drawers with bags and tape !!!! It looks beautiful and blue on my phone. I really want that that blue!!! Did you spray the hardware gold using regular spray paint or just clean them up? Thank you so much for posting !!!
